Hi all,

This is my first post so be gentle! I have a 1999 Audi S3 and it had the standard concert head unit with the Bose option. I wish to upgrade the head unit to enable me to have USB input (from the rear if possible) for an ipod. I spoke to someone at Halfords today and he said that I need to be careful that I find a compatible head unit as the bose/concert stereos in Audi's give extra boost to the rear speakers.... Hence i'm trying to do some research and find out more.

Can anyone offer me some advice please? Also, if you have any recommendations for stereos that have a rear usb input for full control of an ipod that would also be very useful. Will I need any extra cables or connectors when upgrading??

Look forward to hearing your responses....

Your best option is to go for a Becker Grand Prix:

You'll need the iPOD cable, but then you're completely setup. The Becker not only looks OEM but is a quality piece of kit as well and uses the same non standard connections as the Concert, so the only extra's you'll need are fascia plate and antenna amp adapter:

If you go for an Alpine unit, not only are they over complicated to use, but you are very likely to get popping from the Bose amp.
