Hi,

1998 A4 avant. I want to fit a new head unit - The original one's finally given up (lasted much longer than I expected).

I'd just like to clarify what I think I need to do, and some simple questions.

Reading through the threads I need to
1) run new speaker cable to the rear speakers and by-pass a rear amp that may be fitted?
2) get a fascia kit
3) get an aerial adapter?
4) get an adapter for the new HU to the existing wiring connectors.

Where's the best place to get all these adapters and how much is going to cost?

Also this car has the little display computer on the dash that shows what is playing - presumably that just doesnt work - it isnt going to cause it to bork or anything?

Finally can anyone recommend a decent cheapish CD/MP3 player, pref with removable front or other obvious security (the wife has to park in some dodgy areas) ? Where should I shop?

thanks

M

4. No, you don't need any other adapters as you're by passing the rear amp. You may need to swap the perm live & ignition on lives as Audi wire them back to front just to be awkward.
If you don't want to cut the front speaker loom then it makes life easier to buy an ISO speaker loom (male & female) and cut this rather than the stock wiring. If the new HU has it's own loom then you won't need to as you can splice the rear speaker cable into that.
