I want to remove my HU to try connecting my IPOD connector but have no security code....

You might be lucky and have a CAN-BUS enabled Audi (they changed them around 2001). If you have then you don't need the code.
You shouldn't need the code anyway if just wiring up an iPOD interface. Just don't disconnect the black ISO plug on the back.
The iPOD interface connects to the top loom (mini-ISO) where the CD changer cable goes, so no need to remove the power (bottom connector)from your HU.

The reason I thought I needed the code is the Stereo intstruction manual has a perforated card missing from the front cover that had the code on....
I will try the IPOD connector w/out disconnecting the power....

You need a specific Audi iPOD interface cable.
You can't just plug in any old adapter.
The adapter not only needs to fit the non-standard mini ISO connection for the stock CD changer interface but it also needs electronics to fool the HU into thinking it has a changer connected, otherwise you won't be able to select the CD changer/iPOD as a valid source.
Denison ICELink is the most popular interface.
