retrieving code or decode audi stereo

I've just bought a 2000 a6 with standard cassette player but the previous buyer didn't have the code.

it works perfectly so once I've installed my ice i want to sell it but obviously need the code.....

how do i go about getting the code or how much should i be paying for someone to decode the unit?

Hi,
I just had a similar situation after getting my dension gateway installed (didn't work - different thread!) but didn't have the radio code. After calls to both the original supplying dealer and my local dealer the code wasn't on their systems so I had to go along to the service department, they plugged in the computer and were able to retrieve the code. Fortunately they didn't charge me for this.
So if you can find the original dealer worth it's a call but failing that could be a quick trip to the gararge for you.

was this done via vag-com as i have it on my laptop?

Didn't see it done as the car was taken into the workshop, but certainly worth trying with Vagcom I would have thought.

Vagcom can't retrieve stereo codes this can only be done by the main dealer
