Aftermarket Radio Install
The radio in my daughter's '96 A4 needs to be replaced. It contantly scans, even after landing on a very strong station it randomly starts scanning.
Anyway, 11 years old and 150,000 miles, I don't want to pay for the Audi replacement so we bought an aftermarket radio with simple LF, RF, LR, RR leads.
Problem is I can't find most of the speaker leads in the old harness. There is a brown connector with leads going to the front speakers which is fine. But the yellow connector that says it goes to the other speakers is not getting a signal to anywhere.
Any help on how to connect the speaker wires is greatly appreciated.
All Audi HU's only drive the front speakers. The rears have a seperate amp (bolted to the left rear speaker magnet). Which is why the brown speaker ISO only has the front speaker (middle section) wired.
So the yellow lead is actually carries the rear pre-out (un-amplified) signal along with a 12v trigger to switch on the rear amp.
In order to link this to an aftermarket HU you'll need an adapter.
There are 2 available:
1. RCA input (if your new HU has an RCA output or pre-out)
2. Speaker input - for HU's that only have speaker outputs.
You'll also need the fascia adapter to fill the gaps either side of the HU, and possibly the antenna amp (check you're getting a good radio signal, if not then you'll need one).
Thanks. Just what I needed to know!
I sent them an email to see if they ship to the USA or have an affiliate here.
You can get them at Autotoys I think
