hu replacement keeping audi cd-changer ? 1998 a4

Hi,

we have a 1998 A4 with the audi cd changer in the boot. The head unit has started playing up with the well known volume problems.

So, replacement time, Are there head units that will just drop in and work with the existing cd changer or would I do better to replace it and put the existing changer on ebay?

I dont even know if there are different varieties of cd changer (ours is a 6 disk)

I understand that Blaupunkt made the original units, is that the case and if so will any blaupunkt unit drop in ?
