Steering Wheel Remtoe for stereo?

Hi is there anyone out there with a VW or Audi with an OE multifunction steering wheel which enables them to control the stereo volume etc?

We would be interested in making an adaptor to enable you to use aftermarket head units and keep the remote control function. The only problem is finding a car with it fitted as we beleive its an optional extra and not fitted as standard to any models? Is that correct?

Do you know if you keep the same stereo and just have a different wheel? Or if its a different stereo and wheel?

I believe its the same stereo, when I removed my Concert head unit to fit a CD changer cable I'm sure there was a connector block there for the steering wheel controls.
