My stereo in my 1999 1.8T, i think its the symphony one, standard with the car, has aprobelm with the volume knob. When its cold, you cannot change the volume, it either off or on really loud. Then when it gets warm in the car it starts working ok again. I would imagine its a compensation resistor that knackered in there. How much can you get hold of these stereos for, or is there a decent replacement. I take it that repairing it would be out of the question??

yes, these stereos break all the time.
replacement from ebay is about £100, you dont want to know how much from a dealer.

It's quite a complicated memory problem, so not an easy fix.
All the Blaupunkt HU's will suffer from the problem eventually, just depends how much the volume has been used, more than 10,000 times then the problems start.
Not sure if the Matsushita ones are the same.
