HU getting power when I open the door

Guys,

I have a lovly new B7 S4 with Sat Nav (Pics will follow). I've noticed that if I either open the boot, one of the doors or unlock the car the HU is spinning up the satnav DVD. After a few seconds it goes back to sleep.

No key in the ignition and th HU itself is off.

Is this correct?

I think that is quite normal, when you open the door, the car is getting ready for you.

I don't understand why this would be, afterall when I put the key in everything is up and functioning in less than a second anyway.

To me it's a needless drain on the battery.

When you unlock your car, it comes alive and the canbus sends a signal from the central convenience to the nav unit, it then wakes up and gets ready for action.

I would guess it also starts the GPS antenna so a fix is more readily available before you start the engine too.

Another waste of the battery?

Not really as the drain is minimal on a car battery.
