No AM reception - Symphony 2

Hi,
i've got symphony 2 in 2002 A6 and it works fine in all respects except will never receive AM. I've tried this in loads of different areas and never works.
FM works fine as does CD and cassette - anybody had this or any ideas what it could be?

What on earth is AM radio? Is that something they used during the war?
If you want to get Talk Sport etc then get a plug in DAB receiver, definately the way forward.
