Remote tailgate opening on A4 Avant

Hi All,
can someone tell me if the tailgate on an A4 Avant (2011)S Line Black Edition should open and raise or just open?
i'm wondering if the gas struts are weak and won't push the tailgate up or wether there operating correctly and everything is as it should be.

Unlocking the tailgate using the centre button on fob or release button above number plate will just release the lock, tailgate has then to be opened/closed manually. The optional power operated tailgate (now standard on MY2014 onwards) can be powered open using the fob or the internal switch and closed using the button on the tailgate itself.

my B8 vant when you press the middle remote button or button in car
opens it fully you do have to close it yourself tho same as my present B8 saloon

on my B8 avant it opens right up, then you press a button on the inside of the tailgate and it closes itself.
