Thread: is it risky to remap by taking the ecu off ?

Hello i own an 2011 Audi a4 2.0 tfsi quattro manual saloon 211 bhp and i am thinking of getting it remapped, but my ecu is locked, it can only be done by taking the ecu off and remapping it that way ? is it risky to take off the ecu to remap my car ? Please help

Had my ecu remapped that way by APR dealer. only issue would be if the car still has a dealer warrantee. Some people have replaced the retaining bolts so the dealer won't notice any changes should they look. Normally the ecu is out of sight and no one checks it.

ahh thanks i have heard that their is a bar protecting the ecu and it must be grinded off to get into the ecu dont know if it is true or not :L

What kind of a4 do you have ? does the remap make a big difference ? Thanks

My 2009 A4 didn't have any protection bars, the security bolts are tamper evident. The ECU is in a protected area & not visible. I have a 2.0 Quattro and from any even a slow speed the changes are very apparent. There is still turbo lag, but it is much less. The torque difference is quite amazing. Check out the APR web site.

My car is petrol. Still have turbo lag but much less. APR remap has much higher torque at a lower rpm.
