Oil Level not showing up on the display ?

    Hi Group,

Got a 2010 S4 and have been watching the oil level gradually drop on the computer display (over the last 5,000 miles ) - so having gone out to buy the 'special-you-can-only-buy-it-from-Audi' engine oil I filled up 400ml ..... as soon as I did this put the cap on ... the display say's it can't give me any info ... it's been the same for the last couple of drives .. ? any words of wisdom ?

How long were these drives for? I know the computer won't show the oil level until the engine is up to temperature.

The display only works once the engine is warm and has then been switched off for two minutes ( but with the ignition still turned on )....nice and easy eh !!

Best thing is to do the simple dip-stick mod which I have done......just buy the correct dipstick from ECS, fit it and forget about electronics telling you the oil level and look at it directly on a good old fashioned dipstick..:-)

$20 for the part then over $30 to ship it over? Does that sound right??

It is expensive to get it from the U.S, so that is probably right.

I spoke to my local Audi dealer and told them what I wanted.....they found the part number and ordered it in for me, and I think it cost about 10 or 15 all in !

Think the OE Audi part number was : 06E115611H , but please check that....it is the same for all the V6 3.0 Supercharged engines ( obviously ) and I think the guy found it on the parts list for the A6 with that engine.

    Good luck !!

I wonder what the 2.0 diesel part number is. I must go to a VW dealership and have a play with their dipsticks..... 500mm from cap to middle of oil level should be about right...

Well thats stupid, no dipstick to check it manually & only rely on the poxy sensor which may not be working correctly & resulting in a nice blown engine possibly, somethings just should be left as they were huh.

It's only one more in another 100 or so sensors. Admittedly some are more important than others but I bet there's some in there that report to the ECU as equal if not more important than the oil sensor. If you're driving and there's a problem then you still get the same warning whether you have a dip stick or not.

But total sudden loss of oil is rare and normally noticeable? The main advantage is when changing or topping oil.
