High oil consumption S4

My 2005 S4 has extremely high oil consumption 2L for every 1000Km.
What is the likely cause? I will get no coverage from the insurance and Audi seems to be very reluctant to contribute with goodwill. What is your experience?

I did have this with an old Seat Leon and it turned out the sump plug/bolts weren't in properly. They must have only leaked a little bit as I never really noticed a stain under the car.
 
these cars can drink a bit,normally 1 litre every 2000 miles is not uncommon,best to whip off the undertray go for a drive then put the kettle on and watch for drips.
