Hi Guys,

Just wondering if any of you guys do this?

My dad is a fitter by trade so I've never questioned him but he always run an engine for a few seconds after draining the oil with the oil sump plug removed so as to drain any oil from around the engine. Anyone else do this? I've done it once or twice during oil changes but it really freaks me out. I do have to say though that you do get more of the old oil out!

Cheers,

Cant comment on a car.

But i used to do the same with my jet ski.

After use (especially when on the sea) you have to flush the engine of all salt water my revving it for a few seconds once out of the water, this clears any water left in the engine and simply blows it out!

So i imagine the theory/principle would be the same for oil on a car, but can't be sure.

I would think that it would be fine aslong as you dont run it for long due to lack of oil.
