    TDI Difference 170//140????

    Hello,

    can anyone tell me what is done differently to the 2.0TDI 170 from the 2.0 140 from the factory??? Is it a injector upgrade or what????

    I understood it was just a different ecu map but I might be wrong.

    I've always heard that the 140 is a bit smoother than the 170 but obviously not as quick.

    I know the turbo is also different.

    Hi guys, first post. i have just bought a 2.0 tdi sportback on a 2004 reg. how do i tell whether it is a 140 or 170 ??? had a 530d with 250 bhp and bags of torque before and this feels v.quick.

    Hey mate,

    your in the a4 section right now, so will be harder to get the correct info on your sportback.

    sounds like you have a 170, but to make sure check inside your boot it should say 140 or 170 near the edge, normally if you have chrome tail pipes its a sign its a 170 also but obviously this could hve been modified.

    The 170 has a different (higher voltage / pressure) injector rail and ECU as I understand it and also a Direct Partical Filter to keep the emissions down. It's not just a simple remap.

    Also about 5MPG less than a 140.. I get 43mpg out of mine driving like a nun (60-70), my boss has an A6 2.0 TDI 140 and gets 46MPG.

    I had to get the 170 in order to get the special edition trim.
