out of curiousity, does the 2.0tdi does have 170 hp stock?

i have read some sources that it is 140hp(sticky at top of page, for example) and some that say 170hp.

those that have it, what kind of MPG do you get with it?

Two versions are available, 140 and 170. I have a 140, remapped to 180 and it averages around 48 mpg over a full tank.

was the 140hp model produced a year or two earlier than the 170hp one, or were they produced simultaneously?

is one version supposedly more fuel efficient? (well i guess if others respond i will find that out)

140 came out first (in the 2003 A3 IIRC) and the 170 was introduced late 2005 or early 2006. The 140 is still produced.

On paper the 140 is more fuel efficient. I've not driven one for any length of time but the 170 Quattro I had as a courtesy car for a couple of days only averaged 32MPG! Although I've just filled up our 1.9 130 FWD and it on managed 38.4 on the last tankful

The 140 2.0 TDI has excellent MPG even in town, on the motorways is a really nice car to drive too, stick it in 6th and it still have plenty of torque...
