Red face Any harm with excess engine oil?

As titled. In my case it's minimal, just a quarter inch on the dipstick, which someone told me is equivalent to less than a half litre.
But if the amount is a bit more than that, will the excess get burnt off as white smoke out of the exhaust? And will it cause other damages? Many thanks

It could also blow the oil seals in you engine. The pistons going up and down pressurise the crank case and if the excess oil prevents this pressure from escaping it can blow the seals

Or it could blow it out at the weakest point, too much oil is just as bad as too little. Have you checked the oil level on level ground ?
