Castrol SLX Longlife III (or Castrol SLX Longlife 3 for search engines!) for my std 2007 A4 2.0 TDI (170PS) S-Line Special Edit.. - according to the Audi stealer.

- I have now done circ' 5k miles & needed to top up the oil - does anyone know where one can buy this oil? - The stealer (which isn't too local wants ~£13 + VAT a litre).

I tried Halfords, local shops & Garages (BP - Castrol under another name!). Allmost all insist that it doesn't exist - even when I poked the empty(ish) bottle under their noses!

I was told the Castrol edge is the replacement for Castrol SLX Longlife II - (Cos it says so on the edge bottle and Castrol SLX Longlife III doesn't exist remember!!!!). But the stealer keeps saying it needs to be the Castrol SLX Longlife III.

With the oil consumpton typical with the 2.0 TDI (170 PS) engine we need to find a cheep (right-price) for this stuff.

Any ideas? - Even if the edge is suitable (that is also 504.00 and 507.00 compliant in the 5W-30 like the SLX Longlife III) - but that's even more expensive ~£17 from the local shops & BP garage!

I really don't want to re-morgage the house to top my oil up!

I know the edge is the replacement for the SLX 2 (and perhaps the SLX as you say).

But is it the replacement for the SLX 3?

After all the SLX 3 has come out after the Edge - Feb 2007 I believe whilst the edge oil was 2005.

Other forums indicate SLX is up to 2005, SLX 2 (and edge) post 2005 with the unhardned cams, and SLX 3 for the most recent engines with hardned cams - basically I guess why the stealer insists it should be SLX 3 and not SLX or SLX 2 for my engine.

Yes the SLX III is no longer, it has been split up in to other oils in the Edge range, mainly the Edge 5w-30.
