Ran out of fuel......help.

Rather stupidly think i ran out of fuel!

98' A4 19tdi Avant, slowly coasted to a halt in my works car park, so went and got some more fuel but no joy. Engine crank's but does not fire.

I think I may have an air-lock, and have hear that there may be a bleed valve in the engine...but where??

Any help advice would be great.

older diesel engines used to have to be 'primed'. Thought with the new pd engines you just kept on winding it over till it fired?

Defo run out of fuel? Glow plug hasn't given up the ghost has it?

screw the fuel filter off her and fill it with derv, then crank her over at full throttle

Thanks' guy's.

Glow plugs should be Ok, as it started then stopped after a minute ar so.

Once started it should run fine even if the glow plugs then pack up....?

'andyollie', does the filter unscrew from the cap (with the fuel line supply return pipes) like an oil filter does?

yep, glow plugs are only for initial startup.
