    Question Bike rack/carrier reviews

    Hi all,

I was just wondering if anybody had any reviews of their bike racks for their Audi's?

I'm looking at buying one for my B7 A4 avant and wanted to know if there's a particular type/brand I should avoid etc?

    All opinions welcome!

Consider "Thule clipon high" if they still do them.

Locks onto the rear hatch (no belts involved) and, it the clears rear lights and numberplates - so very secure and no lightboard required. Only downside was it only accommodated 2 bikes.

These are very similar to the one I was bidding for on ebay, except it was a genuine Audi part. Unfortunately I didn't win it, hence the thread.

I like the idea of them, am I right in thinking that you can still open the boot with the rack fitted?

I have a detachable tow bar with the car but much prefer something like this!

Yes, I recall it hooks over the top edge and clamps upwards on bottom edges of the rear hatch. You can still open the hatch with the rack in place....perhaps not with bikes on though. In fact you can only remove the rack by opening the hatch slightly. All in all a clever bit of kit IMHO.

The towbar mounted racks offer more capacity but require lightboard etc.

Sounds ideal as to be honest I can't see myself needing to carry more than two bikes. They're expensive though by the looks of it haha!

Yeah I'm not keen on the tow bar options.

    Bike rack/carrier reviews

Have a saris bones 3 rack that is a good bit of kit and I use that on the wife's B5 saloon aswell. I went thule roof mounted on the B7 using thule wing bars and 951 carriers, much better for me having the bikes on the roof giving easy access to the boot..

I've read good things about the Saris Bones rack looks like a good contender!

Not sure about having the bikes on the roof though and the risk of scratching the car trying to get them up haha!

Haven't scratched it yet.... Touch wood. Though it helps being 6'1.
Have seen some cars with helitape protection on the roof which I may do too.
