Hi all I team my fancy a Audi 2.0l tdi 2005-2007 shape s-line.
however I have heard a few story's about the tensioner going balls up?
there is a upgrade available at about 1k could anyone educate me please.
also am I right in think the 1.9tdi only went upto 2004 shape? Cheers

The 1.9tdi went upto 2006/2007 I beleive.

The 2.0tdi's have there problems as mentioned loads of times.

If you're after a reliable daily and not bothered about performance i'd go for the 1.9tdi as it's more reliable.

I've a 1.9tdi Sline 115bhp 2006.
Great car and very reliable. A remap will get get it to
145bhp. I've a bigger turbo and stage two
Remap and sitting safe at 170bhp. There are a lot of problems with with 2.0tdi if you read the sticky on top of thread about oil balance shaft it will help.

I had a 2006 1.9tdi and it never missed a beat, only downside is that it was under powered i felt.... I now have an a3 2.0tdi and its been nothing but trouble, turbo failed first and now i have a nasty clanking noise when i turn the car off.

My 1.9tdi had 160k when i sold it and only had wheel bearings and drop links replaced
My 2.0tdi has only 63k and every thing thats broke has been costly

Plus of course there the mpg thing as well, there was that guy who posted the other day that he was getting 1000miles per tank full at an average of 67mpg, ****** good in anyones books.
I dont think theres a day or two that goes past on this forum alone where someone doesnt post up a problem with the 2.0tdi of one sort or another and normally expensive!

2.0tdi are nosier engines as well

Ive owned
1999 1.9 tdi 110 gt tdi golf
1997 1.9 tdi red i a4
2003 1.9tdi 130 gt tdi golf
2003 1.9tdi 130 fabia vrs
2005 1.9tdi 115 a4
2006 1.9tdi 115 a4 estate
Now the 2.0tdi a3 but an not too happy lol

Ive got to mention i haven't noticed much difference on mpg tbh

Can't Beat a good old 1.9TDI Ive just bought a 2.0TDi and the balanceshaft, chain etc has went. ill be replacing the engine with a stronger engine without balance shaft and funily enough the oil pump system on it is near enough identicle bar some part Nos to the 1.9TDI :)
