    Forgive me B7 forum for I have sinned

    I have been lusting after another. A B8 S4 to be precise. The test drive was good but oh so many things wrong with the bodywork. But oh so much fun.

    Went to look at an S4 - WTF do some people do to their cars?!

    More of a blessing than a sin in my books, surely dealer would sort the body if you asked nicely and they could smell your hard earned cash.

    I can see the S4's creeping up in popularity well over the RS4's ( in terms of mpg, insurance, road tax and tunability ) and finding a good one could start to be quite challenging in the months and years ahead.

    Well jealous of anyone with deep enough pockets to bargain an S4. Good luck finding your new baby and keep us posted in your efforts.

    Yep. Sales guy already said the issues would be sorted.

    Cheers Allan. It was a whole lot of fun! I think you're right the S4 is more practical day to day. At the moment I couldn't see why it would need a remap unless you want to chase RS4s in the style of Chris Harris! It was deceptively fast as it just didn't feel like you were going quickly until you looked at the speedo. I can see why the previous owner had set the speed warning buzzer!

    I'd like to try the s-tronic as I think it would make a great combo with the torquey engine. Also it brings the road tax down from the slightly bonkers £475 to a more manageable £280. The manuals are cheaper to buy in the first place probably because of the tax so it's a trade off.

    Gotta be honest, the B8 S4 would be my option all day long. Fancied a manual though.
    Mpg figures are similar to the B7 2.0t fsi which is crazy really.

    Aslong as the paint work is done to a high standard I say buy it!!! Lol!
    K04 hybrid turbo. S3 injectors, Autotech hpfp internals, RS4 fuel pressure regulator, custom FMIC, APR carbonio intake, decat pipe, milltek cat back non resonated 100mm tips, unicorn developments custom remap, launch control and flat shift. Valet mode, economy map and full power map options. Stage 3 southbend clutch with single mass flywheel, Eibach pro street coilovers, eibach front and rear anti roll bars, porsche cayenne 6 pot calipers front, S4 rear brake conversion.

    Craig, it's the equivalent mpg that really appeals. I'm sure the servicing and insurance etc might be more but I'm an old git so doubt it will be too bad. I think my hesitation is that if the bodywork is in a bad way, it hasn't been loved. Does that mean it's been ragged, not had the oil topped up properly, etc? I think having driven it ragging it is probably less of a concern as it's so damn fast it doesn't take much effort to get it going, so ragging not required. I did flick the DIS over to the realtime mpg setting for a laugh. Was cruising down a dual carriageway and was showing 55mpg, gave it the boot and it dropped to 10mpg.

    On paper it's 93bhp more than my B7 but sitting in the seat it felt two to three times faster. Guess it's that V6 torque/grunt. Other things I noticed is that the build quality felt excellent. My B7 is very well built but this just felt a notch better again. Very solid.

    Need to try and get up to Slough this week to see the other S4 which is better spec'd and has 15k less miles.

    We reciently replaced one of our cars with a b8 s4. We were lucky and found a perfect condition one not far from home. We have also been lucky enough to keep our b6s4. Both lovely cars! We fell across the b8 s4 whilst looking for an rs4 or s5 We looked at a b7rs4 that was a dog and as u have mentioned I couldn't believe how people look after or rather don't look after their cars! As said either have really deep pockets or it wasn't really their car in the first place! We realised for a little extra we could have the newer s4 & haven't looked back. You'll find a good one just wait for the right car to come up :-)

    On paper maybe! We had a b7 2.0t special edition that had been mapped.. Our mpg was always around 40- 42mpg. Our b8s4 does around 22- 25 mpg around town and the most we have seen on a run is 30mpg. It's definitely a little better than our mapped b6 s4. We see 23mpg daily and up to 27mpg taking it easy on a run .

    To be honest mate, my B7 was far from a showroom example when I bought it. Had a 60 year old bloke own it from new, never been booted, but he was quite happy to try and read the car in fronts mileage at 80mph on the motorway, hence the front end looking like it had been shot with a shot blaster. But when all said and done, it's nothing that can't be fixed, especially if it's a good price. I saved £4k so it was worth it.

    For me the service history is the most important part. Cosmetics are an easy fix, and it's nice to see the results. Sometimes buying a minter takes away the job satisfaction, but that could just be me lol!

    Yeah I agree, figures can be glorified, but over 300bhp and 25mpg is not the end of the world. I guess you buy these cars in the bid that they maybe reasonable on fuel, but expect them to be crap and you won't be disappointed. My B7 gets about 30mpg round town with stage 3 k04 hybrid.... But as soon as you start to hear the turbo spool up and the lead foot takes over, it soon becomes about as economical as an evo or a scooby. I guess it all boils down to how you drive. I personally am crap at Eco driver because I love the sound.

    Totally agree! It's hard to drive the v8 sensibly! However it still returns similar mpg than our old highly strung skylines did and who cares.. I know that every time I drive either of them I always have a grin like a Cheshire Cat at somepoint because of them!

    Good work mate. Well jealous. Looking at the b8 S4 next myself. Couple of years yet though .(hopefully come down considerably in price by then)
    Told the wife it's only a 3ltr v6 compared to the 3.2 I've got. Missed out the supercharged bit . Insurance wise, I did a quote 10yrs no claims. Both 28 and current value £22k ish came back £390 compared to the £320 I paid this yr on a damn sight less value and spec car.
