I have a 55 b7 avant without the auto bulb check, I have installed led stop tail/bulbs and as soon as the ignition is switched on the bulb lights up albeit very dim. My understanding is that I should not need to install a resistor, as this is used to fool the computer, or slow down repeat rate on indicators, so, any ideas why the bulbs are on?
