I need a new headlight bulbs.
Any recomendations for ones which give a nice white xenon-like light?
I have searched the net and some are £30+
Would I be better off installing a HID kit?

If you're staying with halogens, then Osram Nightbreakers are pretty darned good.

night breaker unlimited if your really geeky :D for latest ones top of the food chain but the plus is nearly the same only 10 meters less bright. I find the osram nightbreakers are the dogs ball recommend and last ages.

I am using T8UPS ( Forum sponsor ) H7's and can heartily recommend them. He can also offer led side lights or you can use Philips Blue Vision Ultra standard bulbs which match his H7's. His are a heck of a lot cheaper than Nightbreakers and the reliability of them are excellent. My main lamps and side lights are on constantly on ( Swedish Law ) and they have been 100%since I fitted them early Summer 2013. As for HID kits....I would spend that money on other mods first imho.

Cheers
A
