This was a new one on me...

And the bigger brakes have a self-drying function triggered by the wiper's rain sensor.

Presumably rain sensor = auto wipers? In which case I don't have it. My B7 is possibly the meanest spec in the country, it has no options what so ever!

Self drying brakes? Thats a new one for me! Especially seeing as disc brakes are always dried by their rotation (and heat from being used!).

I seem to recall very vaguely reading somewhere that the ABS system was capable of applying the brakes minutely - certainly not noticeable to the driver - to keep the pads and discs dry.

What Jeff said. It pulses the brakes to keep them dry, great for discs, not so good on ECU's sadly...

Well everyday is a school day! I remember seeing this was a feature on the McLaren Mercedes SLR but never realised other cars had it.

it was a prod at Jeff who left his ecu cover off and it got very wet

Regardless of ABS etc, don't the pads rub against the discs anyway?
