Excessive brake dust after upgrading to 18" alloys :(

    Hi
recently upgraded to 18" rep wheels from 16" oem alloys but noticed an increase of brake dust...couple of days after giving the car a good wash the wheels (silver) are covered in black again. Any ideas why this happens? Afaik the brake pads are fine, were only changed a year or so ago.
    Cheers

I noticed the same but i didnt go up in a size, from 18" gens to 18" gens (lighter wheel) i think its possibly just a colour change that you seem to notice it more? + the coating on the wheels may be to blame?

Due to the increase in rotational mass, you'll find yourself having to brake more to stop. This in turn increases brake pad wear, hence more brake dust. Other things such as the colour of the wheels may also be a contributing factor too.

Give the wheels a good clean/polish/wax to keep them protected and use a decent wheel cleaner to help.

Just an update: i started using Collinite 845 Insulator wax (link) on my alloys and it keeps the brake dust away. An absolute doddle to apply and highly recommended if you're having problems with a lot of brake dust on your alloys.
