Cheers Bez, should be even easier for me then as I have no undertray since it broke and came off!

sorted them cos the undertray is a fukker when your working with jacks.

Removed mine this morning and is in perfect clean condition, car has done 76k.
By the way, its a right PITA to get back in, O'ring kept falling out, but got there in the end.

Are you sure it's ok? Did you press it in to reveal the skirt ( fnrr, fnrrr ) I thought mine was ok till I had a good look at it....and it was only after inspecting it I released it was goosed. BTW if you ever replace that undertray, always go for OEM ...there's cheap copy undertrays and they last 5 minutes.

Cheers

Sure did Allan, in fact when i got the last bolt out and got hold of the DV to remove it, the bits inside fell out and all the green rubber bits were absolutely perfect.
Am not in any rush to replace the undertray, too expensive I think and will probably only break and fall off again!

Cheers, Dan.

I got a Rev.D part from ebay last year, about £45 I think. Made a huge difference to performance.

I have had my new Rev D for about 6 months, just can't get round to fitting it.

My undertray is cable tied on and I have a new full fitting kit, but can't get round to it.

How long does it all take to swap the DV?

Dan

You should make the time to fitting the DV!!

I got the new Rev D this afternoon and fitted it, it actually feels like a 200bhp car now!!

Took me about 45mins to remove under tray and replace DV and replace under tray.

Well worth the time and effort

Same here, couldn't believe the difference when I had mine replaced. I reckon it was down about 50bhp with the knackered DV.

Does it feel better though because your original DV was knackered?

Well yes I'm guessing because my DV was knackered that now it working correctly, that I can feel the turbo kicking in about 2000rpm-2500rpm. The new rev D is meant to be more refined from research I did

I got one from here a couple of weeks back, £48 delivered next day.
It's made by Pierburg, who make the OEM valves. If you peel off the Pierburg sticker on it, it reveals the OE stamps

Took about half an hour to swap. I took a revision C out which didn't appear to be torn or perished but the car is more responsive now and holds boost better

How much do people charge for fitting these if the valve is supplied by me?

Just a rough estimate would be fine please.

And if anybody in the West Midlands fancies making themselves £50 to do it for me, give me a shout.

Cheers

Dan

£50 is money for nothing
a local should charge no more than 20 quid

Not had any work done on my car yet, so don't know any local specialists.

Anybody know of any around Birmingham or the Black Country?

Cheers

Dan

If i was closer i would come fit it for you but im in suffolk

You dont need specialist to fot the part once you are under the car its all straight forward

Thanks bud, appreciate the sentiment.

Finally did it today, hired a self service 2 post lift at "Ramp & Wrench" in Coventry. £15 for the hour, and I just did it in that time.

To say R&W is awesome is an understatement.

Anyway, cut the cable ties holding my undertray on and that dropped easy enough.

Hardest part was the electrical plug, but sussed that after 15 minutes of faffing.

3 bolts were all 5mm allen fitting for the record, and they came out just fine.

Could probably do another in about 30 mins all in, but hopefully won't have to.

Anyway, verdict. ****** hell, what a difference. Reckon I must have been 50bhp down since I bought the car (December 2012). I can now feel the turbo on boost, and the front wheels spin a lot more.

All in all, the best result and job on my car so far.

Wish I'd have done it 6 months ago when I bought the new rev d diverter valve.

Thanks for all your help on this one guys.

Glad to be of help.

Your car must of been the same as mine, down by about 50bhp. It feels like a brand new car when i get in and drive now!

really interesting - did your car make quite loud whooshing/dumping noises - mine does it loads and i suspect duff DV

Yes, when stationary and revving, on comedown it was quite "whooshy".

It's not half as loud now, but fantastically quicker.

I'm using a load more petrol now as I can't stop myself feeling the boost.

Unbelievable doesn't cover the difference!!!

Mind if I jump in on this thread...?

I wouldn't say I don't notice the turbo kicking in - I definitely do to some degree - but never quite as much as I had expected. I had a B6 1.8T (163) before my current 2.0 TFSI (200) and don't really notice any difference between the two. Of course, the B6 may have been mapped for all I know!

Is a problem with the DV something that would show up in VCDS? Either a fault, or evident in boost logs or something? If I can investigate this without having to start taking bits off the car I'd prefer that...

I'm thinking of getting the B7 mapped - presumably any tuner worth their salt would check the state of the DV anyway...?

I don't think it throws up errors, but a boost log might lead you to the issue.

From the benefit of my hindsight, and the fact it is actually a very easy swap, I'd say change it for a rev D when you can. It's a £40 part and an hour of your time.

Your car is the same as mine, and if you can hardly feel the boost then I'd say you have a rubber diaphragm DV installed.

My car truly is a grin machine now.

Bear in mind I have driven BMW petrol cars for 10 years prior to my first audi (this one), none of my BM's were under 2.8 litre, some more and an M3.

I have to say, my turbo 2.0 is now impressing me very much.

sometimes logs a fault code
most of the time it doesnt.

not all hardly any tuners will remove your DV to check unless your paying him to do it
as above its really a 30 min job to check or change.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I'm getting it serviced soon so might see if its something they could check whilst its in. I don't really have the setup to get under the car myself. Especially given the undertrays issue you mention...

Actually that reminds me - when it was MOT'd they said there were things they couldn't even test because of the undertrays... guess that implies they aren't a simple remove and replace?

can anyone tell me if the pic in the first post is how the dv looks when its removed from the car,i took mine out today for a look because of low bhp and it looks like it is the new type rev d, but now i am thinking that i should have removed something to expose the rubber ?.all tho it did have a part no ending with the letter d so am i right in thinking it is the new type.if it is the new type one what else could i check for that could be causing loss of power.
tks
