Could be quite a lot of things Matey. Best get yourself down to your friendly neghbourhead indie VAG specialist or indie garage and ask them to run a diagnostic on your car. lt take 5 minutes....an Audi garage in the UK will probably charge you 40 quid for the pleasure...a good indie should do it for noubt if you are giving him the work. Poor mpg could be quite a lot of things.....how's your themostat is it bang on 90 on the gauge....if it's not ....your thermostat will need replacing....that knackered my mpg up quite badly. That won't cause lumpy idle though....what fuel are you running 95 or 98?

hi mate,i don't know what fuel it is.i had the car on vcds about a week ago to turn off air bag light and it showed a fault with some sort of pressure leak,i had to doctor one of the inter cooler pipes due to replacing the front due to a accident so i thought it was that but after tightening all jubilee clips i still have the problem there seems to be a small rushing air sound but so small it could be the turbo i am hearing
ps my bro has a cheapie scan tool and today he pluged it in and got fault code
    P2279 (Intake air system leak).

Whadya mean you don't know what fuel?...Does Dad own a feckin garage? hahahaha Try using 98 next time you are unfortunate enough to need to fuel up.
That wasn't the code I got when my PCV went "goodnight". I had a low boost code show up ( sorry can't remember it now ) when I decided to change my pcv so you might be heading in the right direction.

No recall that I know of Mate....it's about 60 quid and half an hour labour to fit in the garage....the best value performace update you can do.

    Hi Brownie 25

I had the same issue with lumpy idle. Which in the end did result in me getting the PCV replaced. Thou short term fixed the idling. But it seems it has returned but not as bad. But that is another issue on its own.

As for the recall it was only in America that there is a PCV recall. Not in the UK sadly.

I have a recent thread up about the PCV. Which you can read up about if you havent already.

The easiest way really to test if your PCV is gone start the car up. And try take off the oil filler cap off, if you find its very tough to take off or you cant get it off "like mine was" you have a issue. Then you need a new PCV in a nut shell. Its just a question of making sure you get the correct part if you going to install it yourself that is. As I bought the latest revision but was not for my vehicle. By the sounds of things you have taking yours off check which model of your current PCV. Will be something on the lines of 06F 129 101 *
the astrek should be a letter.

It literally is like a 5 min job as you would know already try and clean up the gunk thou prior to fitting a new one.

Is this a trick question? The PCV is the diverter valve Mate.

Ok, so then the Diverter is your "dump valve" this is located on the back of the turbo.. boost pressure gets dumped if you hit any peddle apart from the go button or let go of it.

good man biddyy,i have a lot of suction when removing the oil filler cap so does that mean the PCV has failed or when it fails is there more noticeable symptoms

Best way i detected was yes big vacuum - but also my engine stalled. coughed spluttered first for 10 sec or so. the BSH is quite simple and easy fix. there are others around but this one i have experience with. just a word of caution when you put the cap part on your inlet manifold to blank it off use thread lock on the 3 screws, you will know what i'm talking about when you do it! I didn't and mine blew off! (came loose first) :D

It's easy to check the plugs, make sure your deposits are brown not black and all should be the same colour. Coil packs are another issue that cause bad tick over - but normally can be felt all the time, if one is failing.

These faults can be read from the ECU if you have a code reader or VCDS.

(I bought a full set of coils for £65 and red same part as the R8 while i was there! gen VAG parts of course).. :D

ok, i'd get the codes read if i were you, if nothing in there they can check the running condition by live logging. Sticky injector, boost leak, valve not functioning etc.

Just a thought check your "Evap purge valve" known as the N80 valve. they cause erratic idle too, should throw the MIL light tho. GL

sorted, one of the spark plugs was the culprit, the little arm at the bottom was bent and was touching the electrode just opened the gap and it runs 100 times better.

Oh for sure, running on 3 isn't very efficient! 4th ones just dumping fuel air mix and probably leaning the others out as the sensor may well think it's rich too! I'd get a new set of plugs just to be safe.. but that's me! :D
