    Indicators with a mind of their own!

    Over the last few days, whilst driving the car, both the indicators begin to flash as though my hazards are on. The hazard triangle doesn't illuminate, just the signalling arrows on the dash light up together for 4 flashes and then go off! Doesn't seem to be any sort of pattern or a trigger which makes them do this, just becoming more frequent.
    Any thoughts?

    Scan the car 1st, I do wonder if the convenience module has an issue.

    Hi guys, just a quick update, eventually got round to scanning the car.....and showed up no faults! Indicator relay perhaps??

    Had the same problem on my old Mk4 Golf, replaced the relay (hazard light switch) in the end. Cost me about £9-10 from my local TPS about 2 years ago.

    Right guys, have removed the hazard light switch and was on the way to Audi to get replacement, as the indicators went off!! As the hazard light switch was completely removed, surely it cant be at fault. My question is, does anyone know which one if the 'flasher' relay in the fuse box, as I am now thinking that is the culprit!

    Sorry for the late response, not been on in a while. The hazard light switch IS the relay for the indicators! Hence why they don't work with the switch disconnected.

    Thats the point! They did go off... As in they continued to flash as they did prior to me removing the hazard light switch.So to clarify, they flash regardless if switch is connected or not.

    Maybe way off here but is the passenger floor well wet, the convenience module is under the carpet if it gets wet then it can fail, have had this before, the culprit was blocked drains in the battery well under the bonnet, water was leaking into car and caused the module to fail this was on (b6) model but maybe worth a look

    The saga continues .... Had it looked at by an auto electrician, can't seem to find anything wrong, indicators still randomly activating! Taking on board what Chris-Vspec and NHN has mentioned re the convenience module and this is going to be my next port of call. Questions ....is the module just located under the front passenger footwell carpet? Is it easy to get to and remove? Can it be tested to see if its at fault or should I just replace and hope it is? Finally, what does it actually do? Must stress, the car is absolutely spot on without this annoying fault!

    Have you had a poke around in the passenger footwell to see if the carpet is wet? The door seal plastic strip should pop off and give you enough room to stick your hand under the carpet enabling you to see if the foam below is wet/damp, in terms of removing the module I'm not sure on the process as we paid a garage to do it.

    ours had gone pretty badly, again I must stress this was on a B6 so am unsure if the B7 suffered the same drain hole issues, not only did our lights flash on their own but the windows also went up and down by themselves. When the module was removed and dried out along with the carpets, it went back together and everything was fine we may have been lucky I don't know but we didn't need to replace wiring loom or module.

    thanks again Chris, I will have a look at getting under the carpet tomorrow. Think it sounds like its the culprit. I noticed the carpet randomly wet a while ago but then it dried out and this fault developed afterwards, also have noticed the passenger window whilst closing it, sometimes drops open again once it reaches the fully closed position. Sounds very similar to what you experienced, fingers crossed I may get away by removing and drying it out! Thanks again.

    Managed to remove the module, appears to be ok. Does anyone know if this can be tested?? Alternatively, apart from the main stealers where could I get one from, part number is 8H0959433k.
