Turbo Help

Right I just Brought a Red Audi A4 S-Line Special Edition 2.0 Quattro with 81k on the clock (BRD engine)

I have inspected the turbo and there is no side to side play but there is end float. I was wondering how much end float should there be on the turbo if any? I removed the intercooler pipe and there was oil inside it and the Near side intercooler is leaking. I removed the turbo pipe that goes from the turbo. The off side intercooler and the turbo had a little bit of oil in it. I don't think this is normal myself and I suspect the turbo is on the way out. I know I need a new intercooler on the near side. its hard to measure the end float but there was aprox 2-4mm just by moving it by hand.

I have the same car, on similar miles, what prompted you to look at the turbo? (Mine seems to go well enough and doesnt smoke etc)

I have the cartridge for the above turbo for sale which I brought of solaris off here (had 51K I think off the top of my head) - I needed the outer chassis of the turbo and used my old inner cartridge (4 bolts off the back and its off) which had 16K on.

Offer me a price and you can have it!

well im a mechanic by trade. I was doing a cambelt on it as it. Its done 81/82K and it has never been done so when I was removing the front end I noticed that one of the Intercoolers had loads of oil on it. I then carried on with the cam belt and inspected the turbo. I spoken to some turbo specialist and they said that there should be no end float. If there is end float, it will throw oil into the intake system and likely over boost. everything he said was correct to be honest. anyway Its a 170 BRD engine. I use to own a BRE 140 and it felt a lot more responsive then this but it was only FWD and not Quattro so I assumed it was normal. when buying a car I can't really take it apart to inspect everything but some times I wish I could but its life.

sadly its not the turbo I am after. I am after the Factory OE turbo. Thanks for the offer anyway
