Hi there

as title my heater/aircon stinks of pi55 which dissappears after a short while but recently I've had an intermittent smell of a burning toxic plastic smell coming through the vents when the heater is on. Is there a definitive solution to this and should I be worried?

Cheers........RAW Audi.

Maybe it needs regassed. :) x

It is bacteria building up in the vents and aircon system. You can get air-conditioning antibacterial spray from eBay or an air-conditioning specialist. Just spray it into the air inlet (where the cabin filter is).
A little trick I do occasionally is to spray the cabin filter with febreze which makes the aircon smell nice.

Good luck mate, had this with my B6, no amount of cans of very expensive air con treatment worked. Try running it hot for a while to kill the bacteria, I never found anything to cure it and just had to open the windows for a minute while the initial stink went away.

stop turning it off! and it will fix itself!
leave it on all of the time! run it very hot for about half an hour, to get rid of the stale bacteria and then just leave it on all the time you use the car! adjusting the temp to suit! normally about 20" in my car!
mine did the same because i was told it costs fuel to run it, and then it started smelling! i left it on and it fixed itself in about 3 days!
these are not meant to be turned off but constantly on to adjust the cabin temp.

I leave mine on all the time, never really noticed much difference with fuel economy when it was turned off so its left on.

Cuts out the smelly outside world :icon_thumright:
