05 Audi a4 2.0tdi s line, hard juddering at high revs. HELP PLEASE

    HI,
just bought an audi a4 2.0tdi s line with around 109k miles on clock. Test drove the car around country lanes where the chap lived and it seemed fined.

Driving home on the motorway, after some time decided to give it some. When I had my foot to the floor, the car pulled alright but on acceleration it juddered.
Driving slow and accelerating slowly its fine but when you put your foot down it shakes quite bad and judders. The engien is slightly noisy on idle but the car does idle fine. I thought it maybe the dual mass but shouldn't this judder when pulling away and at really low revs?
Injector issues should prevent the car from starting right?

Puzzled as to what this could be and also not very happy about the whole affair. Not a fan of takingcar to main dealerships and spending huge amounts of money getting it sorted when same thing could be done at an independent. What do you guys think it is?

Need to get it seen to ASAP. Im hoping it isnt something too serious!

    Thanks

Try changing the fuel filter. The service manual only calls for them to be changed every 60k, I do mine every 20k.

    It is a 140bhp model.
Been told it could be oil pump. The oil light or oil pump light is not on. Had it checked on computer and injectors seem to be fine. Could the fuel filter actually make it sound that bad?

Was registered in May 2005. What engine code could this be?

The engine is rattling alot on idle. Disconnected MAF but that didn't make a difference either.

Cheers Bez. Yeah its tappeting sounds and rattling etc. Sounds similar to what your saying. The thing is, I'd liek to be able to get it diagnosed and get it sorted (obviously). Whats scaring me is that getting oil pump sorted and then finding out its something else.
Never had any problems with countless audis have had in the past.

    :-(

Would there be a difference in sound or drive if the whole fuel pump was about to conk out?

Appreciate that mate. Will try and explain this to mechanic. Won't be using Audi as I suspect the bill would easily be over £1k no problem!
Had a few b6 a4s and biggest problem was DMF which was easy to diagnose.

    then he will know
if he needs any more explaining then go somewhere else.

Yeah juddering happens when foot is down. Sounds like a similar issue. Will get it checked ASAP.

    Nice one pal!

Yes, it could sound that bad. My mates 170 sounded like it was ripping itself to bits when his was blocked. (even though Audi claimed to have changed it 2 months before on a service).

Is it not just worth chucking a new filter on before presuming the worst? It may save you time and money.

Have a fuel filter and air filter ready so will be changing that first, I'm doubting it will make a difference but can never guess these things. Then will have the oil pump examined.
If it does turn out to be chain and sprocket, what is the best item to replace with? Standard? or have I got this confused with having the whole unit replaced with the newer oil pumps which are gear operated?

Can someone recommend a place I can get the chain and tensioner etc from? Finding it difficult as it's discontinued apparently. Spoke to a couple of places and they only stock the blanace shaft etc for gear driven conversion and this costs £895+vat!!

Cheers mate. Will be finding out tomorrow what the damage will be. I'm hoping its the most simple of things to do with oil pump and don't have to replace the whole unit!

Chain driven pump converted to gear driven unit, timing belt water pump etc changed along with full service. Apparently running well now. Juts a slightly noisy air con belt/pulley.
Ordered the unit from a company advertising them on ebay, came with 3 month warranty also. Brand new I think the part alone is £900+ vat. Cost me £400 for the pump, sprocket etc. Name of comapny - Volksbreakers (on ebay).
Was quite difficult to get the sprocket off the crank. My mechanic cut the sprocket at different places and then hammered it off. New one goes on with a bit of grease/hammering.
    Thanks again bez!
