has anyone had a problem with the econ button staying lit, cannot turn off , but when pressing auto ( this lights up) econ light still stays on, does this mean airconditioning is at fault?

Either need regas. check your fuses, you need to get it scanned with vcds to identify the fault, my mates a4 estate has exactly the same problem.
