Alternator Pulley fixed or clutched?

Hi there all,

My car has gone back to a used specialist where I bought it from (under warranty) due to a squeal I get on full lock. It sounds like belt squeal and it disappears once you increase engine speed from idle. After some research I concluded it was the alternator pulley (which I think has a clutch in it) that has seized and was causing the belt to squeal as it didn't allow it to free wheel.

After making a phone call to the garage today, they said it wasn't the alternator pulley as they do not have clutches and they are fixed. So they have ordered a power steering pump to replace my current one instead.

After doing my reading I was 90% sure it was the alternator pulley causing the problem. So my question is, does my alternator have a clutch pulley or is it fixed?

My car is a 3.0TDI engine code ASB if that helps.

So it does definitely have a clutched pulley on my engine then? I did check the fluid level and it seem allright. This is definitely a belt squeal and its quite loud.

I even told the garage that I'd be willing to pay for it to be done if it didn't turn out to be that. So I keep having my doubts that they may be trying to get me to pay for it as they may blame the PAS pump for the noise and not the alternator pulley. Not sure if they've even changed the alternator pulley or not yet so I guess I better clear things up with them tomorrow.

Just been having a look on eBay and this one appears to be for our engine. It looks like a fixed one and not one with a clutch mechanism.

As opposed to one of these which I believe are the clutch pulleys that appear to fit to the 2.0TDI engines.
