Which oil types when servicing

Can someone explain what is the difference between fixed or long life servicing. Once the 3 years warranty is up I do my own and on previous cars I've always serviced them on a certain mileage or 12 months, whichever came first but not sure what I should be doing with this one. I only do about 6k a year max and I changed the oil last about 10 months ago using castrol edge 5/30.
