After much anticipation I finally got remapped by Nic from Tuned n' Styled Tuned n' Styled Engine Remapping & Chip Tuning (ECU Remaps) - East Midlands

This incorporated the DPF being gutted and the EGR being mapped out. The car feels more responsive, has more power all through the rev range, and is generally much more drivable. Ended up speaking to Nic for about an hour due to an extended test drive after the map... rolling road eat your heart out!

To top off the weekend I finally fitted (after colour matching) the Cupra-R splitter, and I've gotta say it makes all the difference to the front end. Think I will be able to live with the SE bumber without upgrading to an S-line now... AND fitted some new embossed aluminium number plates to boot! The car's been pampered this weekend, tuned, washed, waxed & driven with enthusiasm :icon_thumright:

Their site says "All of our remaps are CUSTOM written for each vehicle" - so it went on a rolling road, or how do they do it?

A rolling road/Dyno isn't essential when remapping,if the tuner has a tried and tested map then they will use that.

We don't use a rolling road/dyno. The map can be felt instantly

Figues wise (quoted but not confirmed) for a standard stage 1 map is around 260bhp (+30) and 520Nm (+70) of torque. That combined with the DPF being removed, EGR mapped out and the pipercross air filter... maybe 270bhp and 530Nm?? All estimates, but at the end of the day it's not the figures that count, it's the delivery of power that makes the difference.

I took my previous A4 TDI to R-Tech (based in Hinckley) and they didn't use their rolling road either, but they took it for a test drive instead. Nic read the map from the ECU, sent it off to the tuning company which tweaks it on his behalf (based 'Up North', but the name of which I do not know), recieved the adjusted map, re-flashed the ECU and went for a test drive to check there were no errors and to check for flat spots etc.

It seems to be a standard sort of proceedure, regardless of wether the 'tuner' is sat in your passenger seat and tweaks the map in front of you, of if they're 100 miles away in an office, as long as someone is there to physically flash the ECU and give it a test run afterwards. In this instance there was the physical side of gutting and DPF also, for which Nic used a garage based locally (Vauxhall specialist as most of his customers are Vauxhall owners).

All in all the garage work cost £80, and the map, DPF & EGR coding came to £230. The DPF on the 3ltr is apparently much more accessible than on the 2ltr TDI engines (2ltr is mounted within the engine bay itself rather than under the main body of the car behind the CAT), so the mechanical work too less time and as a result cost less than anticipated. Which is quite a lot cheaper than anyone else who quoted me for the work. Nic can also travel and regularly goes up to Sheffield/Birmingham, so it's definately worth considering if you're not insistant on using a rolling-road (which to be honest isn't really necessary for this low level of tuning).

where did you get those plates?? looking very nice!!

Cupra-R splitter is a nice touch, but I had to take mine off for winter as it makes a very poor snow-plough ;)

Thanks Chris! I got them from a guy on eBay who came recommended on this forum (on an old thread), they were about £27 delivered: UK FONT 3D Embossed Metal Number Plates 100% Legal | eBay

Ta muchly: as per PM... I'm sorting out the plates first, THEN I'll check the screws for the LEDs... you fly-boys in your new B7's... sigh... mine is a 2001*, so almost certianly corroded to all hell... and I think I'll need new covers too.

*I've test driven a 2.0TDI "177PS" B8 S-Line and decided that I "need" to wait until I can afford a 3.0TDI.... it might be 177PS on paper and it's not a slow car, but it's NOT the same type of power delivery as the V6 :(

That said, there's some lovely A8 3.0TDI's out there (2nd hand)... and it seems to be the only way to get the same level of toys that I have in my A4....

Plates ordered :)
