    Audi phone question

When I bought my Audi it had these wires and brackets fitted to it, are they the originals for a phone bracket and if so what phone is it comparable with?

    Cheers, rich

It would be compatible with the audi cradle, that can have many different adapters fitted, you need to check audi uk site for which phones the bracket will support.

good point, i just hate those holes that are in the dash so would have liked to have the cradle so i can connect my phone by plug in if that is possible? i could really do with seeing someone who has one fitted and see for myself what it really does etc etc clearly im missing something here and what ever anyone says i dont seem to grasp, so i'll leave it for now and when i get to audi in the park of somewhere where someone has one i'll take alook then and get my head round it

I still cant understand what you need to work out mate, its just a cradle which would give you pretty much all the BT would, except it would of course charge the handset, but you need to check with audi if they have the adapter for the cradle to use with your handset, if the hole bothers you, then either get someone to plastic weld & then dash repair guy paint it for you or get a new console piece to cover up the whole.

ok thanks for replying to my stupid question, you clearly know all about this and i have no idea so i'll leave it, i just cant understand why i have wires for a cradle set but have the BT set up aswell? and when the phone rings i have to dig it outta my pocket whilst im driving and answer it whilst if i had the cradle i could just reach over and tap it? and ive also noticed that when i answer it, every time i have to activate audi speaker phone on my handset to hear them or else i cannot hear who rings, anyway of sorting that?

My 2005 Cab came from the factory with Bluetooth module and the cradle on the dash - where your holes are..

The previous owner fitted the iPhone 4 adaptor to the cradle, This charges the handset and *might* use the GSM antenna in the car, but I'm not sure of that.

You probably want something like this, but best to check it will be compatible with your car..

Mine had bluetooth and the cradle when i went to view it at the garage. I hated the cradle and managed to get the garage to agree to remove it and change the console.

How hard have you tried? I keyed "Audi Phone Bracket" into Ebay's search function, and look what it came up with!

    bigrich690,
There are a few benifits going down the route you first mentioned.
Bluetooth is not all its cracked up to be, it can drop calls, bad reception at times, can be troublesome, anyway using a cradle and dedicated iphone adaptor.... you can charge the phone, use the cars inbuilt ariel, works perfectly.
I still use bluetooth with my nexus phone, but if i go away for holidays... i take my trusted nokia and use it via my adaptor/cradle fitted to the armrest.

BT isnt the issue & it doesnt drop calls unless your bt device is faulty, that would be the handset & network signal, the distance between the BT system & the handset are so minimal, that it would have the best BT connection it could have, its purely the handset/network that causes these issues.

Obviously when its plugged into the base unit then it would utilise an external antenna which is of course best for using whilst driving about, but mine has worked flawlessly & I've had a fair few versions now, so for me, unless your network has very bad patchy signal areas that an external antenna may help with, I'd stick with BT.

    NHN,

With due respect, i used my old nokia via BT many months before setting it up via the armrest base unit, now the call quality on BT was without doubt noticably inferior, but changing back to the armrest base unit, it became a different ball game, crystal clear, no interference whatsoever,
While i agree, your BT quality can only be assured with both handset and network being top notch, it doesn,t take away the fact that BT will always be second best to the base unit connection.
By the way, i have had in the past 3 phones using BT and base unit, they were not all faulty, but the results are the same.

Nokia are known in the mobile phone industry to have a "unique" Bluetooth stack implemented by themselves, that doesn't conform to many of the industry standards - since Bluetooth is a self-certified standard they can do this.

I dont disagree in many different industries/uses, that a cable connection is better as its not as susceptible to outside sources as such, but given the distance & usage that doesnt require so much bandwidth, I'm finding it hard to see why you are having issues unless there are other factors involved, like handset age, module age, handset FW version, BT versions in use, there are many contributing factors that can affect the discussion point tbh, even the sound system in use can affect.

Most modern day handsets have BT V2 anyway which is tbh very good, so should have good quality, but I have issues with the BT on my Samsung Galaxy Ace which is a good handset with new technology fitted & this is down to the handset android versions, not the BT itself, call quality is very good but disconnects sometimes.

But, maybe you have an issue with your BT module as the cable/cradle isnt using the wireless part of this, who knows without swapping out for newer.

All I can say is for me, the BT is very good overall & allot more flexible.

I have this phone bracket and the entire center console if someone wants to make me a decent offer and it'll help out a forum member. Hardly any phones work with it and the bluetooth works well on it's own, as NHN has said. But that doesn't change the fact that I have a load of Audi plastic in my loft I want to get rid of.
