Bit of a strange one coming from the B6 I now have the B7 and my lights options are off,auto side and full beam on the dial, however I have noticed that even when the dial is placed in the auto position my side lights come on when I am driving. This also applies to if I have the dial to the Off position, So question is what is going on is this normal and just a safety feature, or something else and does it have a negative impact on the normal wear and tear of the bulbs?

Sounds like a fault to me......
Side lights should be:
Off - off
Auto - off, unless it's dark
Side - on
Full - on
Side lights should be:
Off - off
Auto - off, unless it's dark

Sure its your side lights and not your drl's? check if you have a small switch next to the light switch that has a 1 and a 0 on it. 1 being on.
Whey hey, seems like I have another toy on my car they are DRL lights checked them this morning and well they do as it says on the tin. thanks to everyone who advised
