A4 2006 Auto Gearbox problem-Help!!

Hello all,I need guidance/advice. My Audi A4, 2006 with multi tronic transmission initally started jerking whilst I am driving in December last. Initially it was a minor jerk at first, if I am driving, I could feel a slight jerk/shudder at gears 5,6. I thought it may be due to the cold weather or bad diesel and perhaps the fact that I only drive it at weekends- rest of the day its parked on the drive. I took it to Audi and had the gearbox oil changed due to the mileage was 79k . No code was coming up after diagnostics. The gearbox oil was changed initially at 39k. The jerk stopped after the gearbox change but last weekend, was about to reverse and put the shift on R only for the car not to budge. The dash indicators,PRNDS started flashing. After switching off and waiting a while, I restarted and managed to engage reverse and drove the car home. Booked to see Audi in 2 weeks but need to know what I am dealing. I have an OBD tool and ran a diagnosis and got this code 017090. It appears to be the TCM- however info on the web indicates that it may be the beginning of an unending journey to Audi for expensive repairs. Will appreciate any thoughts/experience/help on how to deal with this problem.

The best advice anyone can give is to start saving your pennies and you will need lots of them..............
This problem has been dealt with several times on several threads on various forums and your problem is that either the ecu or the gearbox is on its way out. Sorry to be writing this, but from what you have read I guess you are already aware of the potential costs.

speak to inde tech at milton keynes
they specialise on this gearbox and have good feedback
i recommend my customers to them as its more cost effective
 
As above look for a repair rather than replacement. It's most likely the multi tronic unit. Expensive. You're probably looking at a grand plus easy
 
I'll keep it short, mine had the same thing.

New ECU, transmission Fluid, DV valve and Pipercross Panel £1300+

Good luck mate because multitronics are a ***** when they go wrong.
 
Just to add, you could have the ECU repaired Audi A4 A6 Multitronic auto transmission ECU - Audi ECU £250 but you'll need to drain the gear box of all its fluid to get to it then send it off, once its back it plugs straight in but you'll need a special tool to put the fluid back in which only a few places have (a few transmission specialist will empty the fluid but not fill it up or wont touch it as I found out) on a light note you'll probably already have as i do the new 7 plate clutch so your gear box should be fine its the older models that have the gear box problems as well, thats when prices starts rising to 2 -3 grand.

Sorry to hear about your probs. Sounds exactly what happened to me earlier this month in France (see this thread) and, according to Audi, the gearbox is knackered. I too had jerkiness for a while beforehand before the high pressure oil line between gearbox & radiator blew sending 7 litres of transmission fluid alll over the road. Interesting, speaking with Audi UK, this car (which I've only had 6 weeks from an independent dealer) has history from last year with the gearbox ECU being replaced as faulty by Audi Oxford, and Audi UK paying 50% of the £1,500 bill as a goodwill geasture (although 3 years out of warranty). So hopeful I'll get refund or repair from dealer under warranty (car being repatriated back to UK by Greenflag at the moment). My error code from French Audi dealer VAGCOM is different to yours (P02040) and the Audi dealer says its the same code this time as last year.......
