Thread: Possible alternator pulley problem?

I mentioned in a previous thread that my car was making a whinning sound from the steering. I've rang two VAG specialist garages and the alternator pulley has been mentioned from both garages. Im taking it to one of the garages tomorrow to get a looking over but I like to have a rough idea before I go so does this sound familiar or right to anyone?

Sounds right to me. I had same issue on our B6 - Think I paid 150 all in for job = part to be done at a VAG specialist...

Just had mine done £52 for the pulley and £20 for half hours labour cured my problem which was as you describe

have a look at the belt while its ticking over..... does the belt look like its whipping about and the tensioner wobbling very quickly?

It does yeah. I took it to my local VAG guy and he confirmed it was that, well I say confirmed, I mean he said there's play on the belt and its most probably the problem but they would have to strip it to make sure. Its booked in for next saturday, £105 part and fitted. Hopefully that will put it right.
