    Bluetooth module upgrade

Hi all, was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the differences between the various bluetooth handsfree modules available. Reason being that since running ios5 on my iphone4 i get the bluetooth disconnection/reconnecting problem, had it previously on windows mobile too but went away when first started using my iphone.

I believe that there's no way of updating my current bluetooth module (if anyone does know of a way please shout), so was thinking of replacing my current one with a newer version.

    Taken this from audiforum.us, i think mines probably a 8P0 862 335 C possibly E.

I should say it's conected to a Concert II HU, MFSW, in a B7 MY 2006. So does anyone know if there are any compatibility issues between this and any of the bluetooth modules? Could i say put in a 2011 version? Has anyone got exact differences in the parts numbers?

If anyone has any relevant input i'll be very appreciative.

Yes, you can fit the 2011 version, but you will need vcds to code the new module.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have got VCDS but haven't yet installed it on my new laptop, which is why i don't know for sure the currently installed part number.

Good news that i can use the 2011 module. Do you know if i will have a problem changing it from can bus back to K line considering it will be preset to can bus and i dont have that conection available for it in my car?

You will be able to code it however new units from Audi will usualy be set to all zero's so can be code by k-line or can, what version of vcds do you have? if it's the £10 eaby cable then may not work.

Its the official HEX-USB+CAN cable from ilexa and latest version of VCDS (updates itself). Just gone and bought a used 8P1 862 335 module off the bay from a 2011 A3 so i assume that'll be setup for can bus, lets hope i can recode it

Just thought I'd update this in case anyone wants to know my findings. I got around to installing the replacement module over the holidays and found the following out:

The new module recoded from can to k-line with out any problem with vcds (came out a 2011 A3).

The module is located under the right hand seat footwell carpet as you sit in the car (I went looking under the passenger seat, where other people had said to find it, but that only applies if you are driving a LHD car, as oppose my UK spec RHD)

Getting to it is a bit of a faff but not overly difficult, remove the lower A pillar plastic cover, undo the 4 bolts holding the seat down (don't bother unplugging the electrics, so no airbag worries) push backwards, pull carpet up which is the worse bit, and get the lid off the plastic box the module is seated within. This bit is only difficult from trying to hold up the carpet to allow yourself enough room to get the lid off. Unplug multi connector first then remove module.

I had installed originally 8P0 862 335 F, the new module 8P1 862 335 has resolved a number of problems when using my iphone 4 with ios5 installed.
    1) The bluetooth disconnecting and reconnecting again problem has gone, this would randomly happen whilst driving (or when finishing a call, since ios5) This also occured using a windows mobile phone but not with a Nokia Series 40.
    2) The volume would always reset to maximum and I would have to turn it down everytime i got back into the vehicle for ringing and in call with ios, the new module remembers the last set volume (as the original did with other phones)
    3) The DIS display of contacts was laid out incorrectly with ios, the new module handles the contacts numbers in the correct manner. It assigns /P /W etc correctly to each number a contact has, where as before it would list the number type from the phone itself and try and fit all the text on the screen. So instead of

    I now get

I hope the above is all useful information to someone. Hopefully this new module might work with Android and WP7 too... I'll await the next ios major update to see what apple can improve next.

Just purely out of interest, the update to ios5 now transmits the track name of a song whilst playing using bluetooth A2DP, got it working in my other halfs ford fiesta (that needed a software upgrade too).

    Hi all

I am having the very same problem with my 2006 A4 B7 and my iPhone 4 running ios5, it has been working fine upto the ios5 upgrade do I had already surmised that it was a Bluetooth SW issue I thought I would be able to buy a new Bluetooth module for my car and plug it in but I see that there are some differences between CAN and K-line, Now I have to be honest I know that modern cars have CAN but I've never heard of K-line before??, does this mean I have to find a K-line module??

Any help would be appreciated, Many thanks.

All the BT modules with either 8P0 or 8P1 prefix can be coded for both K-line and CAN.

As above, the bluetooth modules can be coded for both K-line and CAN, doesn't matter how the module was previously coded, if at all.

To code you will need VCDS to read the coding from your current module, and then once installed to recode the new one.

I don't believe you will find a newer module coded ready to plug straight into your car.

You can easily work out the correct coding using the Ross-Tech wiki here Audi A3 (8P) Telephone Preparation - Ross-Tech Wiki

And if you do you can bet it's used, possibly taken out of a written off car.
