    DTM quattro question ??

    Hi bought a quattro dtm and noticed it slides at the back end when turning and bit of power is added at the pedal - is the normal ? It's worse when the roads are wet, can be fun but the first couple of times I wasn't aware, **** myself ha ha !!

    Is there anything I should watch out for ?

    not driven an Audi quattro system hard yet but when driving my old GT4 Celica i did have to chage my driving style slightly with the GT4's 4WD you had to keep the power on going round bends not foot to floor but feather the throttle to allow the 4WD to grip i found if you back of in the bends like u would with front wheel drive the back end would become loose like u said again its fun when ur aware of it but at first i also puckered up the ass cheeks but not sure if the Quattro needs the same driving style sure someone will point us in the right direction (excuse the bad pun)

    I still think I'm driving my golf Gti - ha !!

    What xxxx me up ! I was driving at about 60 on a 50 road with slight curv and I felt the back end twitch and with that my back end twiched also lol :-/ .....This left me a bit nervous and questions started to enter my head is this normal for a quattro ??

    like i said i cant say for sure as ive never driven a quattro but does sound the same as GT4 just need to keep the power on so the quattro system has enough power to send the grip were its needed

    I've got a special edition Quattro (same power as dtm). Ive really got to spank mine to get it to boot the back end out.
    But in the wet it's do-able. But it doesn't do it unless I push it harder than normal. What I will say,
    Is don't panic, it will correct its self very quickly. Caught me off guard to start with.

    Haven't had an issue with mine doing that at all. What's the tyres like? Get an rs 4 arb as helps the handling.

    I've driven mine hard, I know it's a diesel but obviously with the torque that problem would show itself but I've never had it (apart from in the snow). Like mentioned, check the tyres and alignment etc.

    When I was running std power I found it quite difficult to loose the back end especially with traction control on.

    Agree with razza, get your tyres inspected, what tyres do you have out of interest?

    I've actually tried few days ago to lose traction either on front or rear with my 2.0tdi 170Q just to see it's limit but I can easily do 50mph through roundabouts in MK and still not even a smallest slide. Just to compare I drove rather hard an S3 yesterday and it does go off at the back quicker but S3 is a haldex so there might be a difference. Will see when my A4 is mapped and DPF removed.

    An RS4 rear anti-roll bar is one of the best mods you can do on an A4, but on its own, it won't fix your problem of a twitchy back end. If anything, it would make it worse.

    Regardless of whether they are 2 or 4 wheel drive, the truth is that A4s are not noted for lack of rear end grip, even with a stiffer rear anti-roll bar, so if your car is tail happy, then either your tyres are useless, or you are simply driving too fast for the conditions.

    I had the same problem when I first got mine, was the ARB since replaced with the RS4 and have to spank it to get the back end out usually when wet

    Hi thanks all for comments, the tyres on the front are Nexen N1000 235x40 ZR18 XL & the rear tyres are Ironman Type Z 235x40 ZR 18 XL. Both sets have good tread these were on the car when I bought it from Audi in June this year, the tyres did look new.

    What tyres are best for quatros ? especially for wet conditions.

    There's your answer, I suspect. They might be newish and have lots of tread, but those tyres are real bargain basement trash. You can't really go wrong with premium brands like Michelin, Continental, Pirelli or Goodyear (not Dunlop) but they don't half cost. If you're a bit strapped for cash, then a very good choice is the Falken ZE912. It's priced as a mid-range, but pretty much matches the top brands for performance, plus it is a lot quieter and smoother-riding.

    298bhp just from a remap?? That sounds a bit steep.
    There's no wonder it's stepping out!!

    When I bought my car I can't say I was overly impressed with the handling, oversteer was appalling. At first I put it down to Audi being ever so clever and hanging the engine over the front axel however I also noticed that the car was wearing a brand new set of WANLI rubber. I replaced the whole lot with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, the difference was amazing (and so was the price ) I would really recommend that you change the tyres, it will be the best & most effective performance mod you do to your car.

    I echo the above, I gave never heard of those tyres, cheap tyres will give you crap traction. Change them, sell them on eBay.

    What would mine fetch £ ? They have done about 2000 miles no uneven points on the tyres

    Ive got a DTM with new P ZERO rosso's all round, they give amazing grip in all weathers and am very impressed with them compared to previous brands Ive had, no issues for me!

    Just bought 2 x Dunlop sportmax rt - the grip is brilliant in even wet conditions so I wonderd why you dismissed Dunlop tyers ?

    For what it's worth the way the Torsen diff works the more lock goes on the front the more power gets sent to the rear, up to 85% on full lock.

    Tight corners your car will act almost RWD,

    It sounds like your tyres - sometimes the brand may not be that good on the quattro.

    You shouldnt get the back end out that easy. Only if your in the wet or snow or extreemley pushing it hard.[

    On my Quattro 3.0 TDI I have P Zero's and they are wicked. I had michellen pilots before and they too were good.

    Hi, James. The reason I "dissed" Dunlops was mainly down to a bad experience with a set I had on my first A4. That said, it was about ten years ago, so probably not relevant to the tyres they make now. Glad you're getting a good experience with yours.

    No worries mate - just been out to my daughters rescue battery was flat, roads were quiet and wet so put my foot down into corners and round abouts couldnt get the back end round but the front slid a bit just hope they weir well

    also look into Toyo Proxes T1 Sports.. Audi now fit them to the RS3 and RS5 from the factory.

    Ive been running them for a year and a half now and i love them.. much better than the more expensive Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy's i used to run.
