I'm posting on behalf of a friend who has a 3.0 V6 TDI TDV.

Long and short of it is that when the air con is on, all is well. But when it is turned off, you can feel a vibration. All this only at idle.

Does anybody have any idea what it could be?

Cheers

Usually this is down to the dual mass flywheel but im not sure how its caused by the aircon?

search dual mass flywheel on here.

Yeah, that was my first thought too, but the vibration doesn't go away when the clutch is pressed down - I thought that pressing the clutch would stop the vibration, but it makes not difference in this case. It's a 56 reg with 65k, it shouldn't need the flywheel yet should it?

It could still be flywheel, there really strange but it won't do any harm, just leave it unless it's really bad and change it the next time (or 1st) you get clutch done.

I know, there's an AUTO button on there and I told him it's all he'll ever need! He's moved to his A4 from a MkIV GTI and it experimenting with getting as much mpg as he can... petrol drivers don't get it until they own a diesel!
