I've just bought an A4 2.0 Turbo the weekend.

It's an 05 plate with 53,000. My problem is it feels very sluggish for a 2.0 turbo. I'm not sure whether its me been used to quicker cars, but it really doesn't feel like it even has a turbo!

Another problem I have is that it makes a really loud rattling/tappety noise on idle. Really doesn't sound right too me.

I've had it on VCDS with no faults showing.

Is it me or could there be something wrong?

Check your DV. If thats blown, replace it, and then you'll feel the turbo. Even if its not blown, worth replacing to the newer metal style.

If its still slow, remap.

The idling noise is a trait of that engine, there's quite a few threads on it. It's normal.

Which metal style do I need to change it too? Will it be ok with a remap then?

Ok thanks for the info

You need the revised OEM version "D" diverter valve. My diverter valve failed and the car was flat as hell.
Remap will transform the car mate get it done stock 2.0T aint that quick could just be that depends what your used too?

I took it out today and it seemed fine. I think it's just me.

My previous car was an Audi A3 3.2 V6 and before that a Focus ST running 300bhp. That's probably why I think it's slow lol

my 2.0t feels slow too even after a remap,no fault codes to show anything wrong either,no hissing of boost leaks but no gauge to show boost,my old 1.8t was quicker and more economical its just that these cars are very smooth and efficient and dont feel fast, had a Focus 280 bhp last myself a totally different animal which was exciting and begged to be driven, that too was more economical.

No a remapped 2.0t should feel fast mine sure does and I have owned various quick cars ! I would check MAF and DV if I were you ?

Yeah I've owned a 3.2 A6 and a 3.2 A4 and the remapped 2.0T feels faster than both of those. It should be faster as well in theory, as the 2.0T is lighter, and has just as much or maybe a few more BHP than a 3.2. You will get the turbo lag, but if your in sport mode you will not notice any.

My advice, get the revision D DV, get a remap. Then you should be happy. If not, then look into a K04.

my apr mapped 2.0t quattro accelerates like this,30-50 (3rd) 4.48,50-70 (4th) 6.2,60-80 (5th) an agonising 12.3

Well 60-80 should be 3rd really. Never really timed mine so I can't compare. It's an odd thing to try explain, but mine feels as fast as it should. It's a bit quicker than my old type-r, but much more torquey.

My engine code is BGB, not listed there, and it fitted no problems.

Give Audi a call, give them your chassis number and ask them to check what DV will fit. If they come back saying revision B, then it will definately fit as its the same design. They should tell you to order a revision D as its the updated version and the B is obsolete.

After going out in my mates MKV Golf GTi which is standard, I now believe there is definately something wrong with my car.

The Golf pulled well in all gears, had bags of power everywhere. My A4 seems so guttless in comparison.

....are you entitled to new coil packs under the "recall" that isn't a recall? I was and it feels better still after those.. more MPG i'm certain (long journeys, 2100 miles a month, plenty of time for comparison!)

Get your codes read, and go from there.

Ive checked them and there aren't any.

Yeah it's there getting them done as we speak.

Did you check for codes using VAG COM or a portable codes scanner?

Yeah and it didn't show anything which is why I'm confused. There is definately a problem, it's not just me now. When my old A3 went in for coil packs, I had an A3 2.0 TFSI as a courtesy car and again it was a totally different animal.

Hmm.... well thats got me stumped then. Might be worth taking it to a VAG specialist and seeing what they say.

Are you sure its a turbo? Audi made a 2.0FSI non turbo. I'm sure your correct, but it was the only thing I can think of.

Yeah and me. I took the Audi technician out in it today and even he agreed it was down on power quite a bit.

Just scanned my car with VCDS:

1 Fault Found:

Any ideas?

Low boost pressure is what it sounds like then. Leak, faulty sensor or turbo?

I'm not sure what value it should be exactly, but 1000mbar sounds a bit low, that would be atmospheric pressure. From that I'd definutely say you've got a boost leak somewhere :(

Almost exactly the same as I got before I changed my DV....

So it is your DV. Spend £50, and about an hour and it'll be fixed.

Thanks, that was on my list of things to do. I'll get that ordered anyway. Would I not hear it fluttering if my diverter valve was broken?

No you won't hear anything. The holes are really quite small, but seem to let all the air out! You might hear a little bit more woosh when you upgrade.

Little Update:

I bought a Revision D Diverter valve and fitted it the weekend. Now I have full boost! I knew the car wasn't right and the valve I had on the car was Revision B and had a huge split in it!

Thanks for all the advice!

Knew that would be the problem, its amazing the difference that little thing makes isn't it. Glad your sorted.

I changed mine to Rev D last month. I had Rev C on mine and though it hadn't split, I changed it as I have had it remapped. Remapped 2.0T is how they should be from the factory, well worth looking into... :icon_thumright:

Yeah I will be getting it done soon!

Hmmm this is interesting!! - whats the chances of my 06 having the piston type already? - I've had it re-mapped but the power doesnt seem smooth or consistent, is this mod a no brainer, ie do it anyway type thing?

The fault codes definitely relate to the DV. says on the test plan check as diaphragm is most likely split. i am thinking of changing mine as i have fitted the forge spacer and it doesn't seem to perform as it should.

Yeah I changed it to the revision D part and now it is back to how it should be

Could anyone give me an idea where and what to look for? - my 18T was easy it was smack bang on top of the engine... I had a quick look lunchtime but I cant see it... :S
