Audi A4 2.0t FSI Sport 2006 OR Audi A4 2.0 TDi 140 Cabriolet 2008 - DILEMMA???

Hi Guys,

I am torn between buying ethier :

Audi A4 2.0t FSI Sport 2006 41k miles

Audi A4 2.0 TDi 140 Cabriolet 2008 51k miles

Both are the same price but specs are better on the 06 Sport model (but that is not the be all and end all for me..)

I am going to buy one of these cars and just wanted the experts opinions really, if I may.. especially because I have not owned an Audi before! I notice some people prefer the deisels engines over the petrol and wondered why that was?

The other obvious point is mileage aside this 08 is two years newer so is it better and if so why and how?

As you can tell I am a bit of a novice so I must add that any comments or feedback is very much appreciated and welcome..

Hi, I guess it all depends on what you are after it for. I toyed with the diesel, my friend bought one, and having driven his, I decided against it! Dont get me wrong, it was a lovely car, just it felt underpowered and sluggish, even with a remap i dont think it would have been all that! Also the other point would be listening to that diesel engine when the hood is down.....its not a good sound! The 2.0 petrol seems to be the favoured choice on here, with plenty of get up and go esp if you get it mapped. I couldnt find the right one for me, as spec is what I was after, in a petrol quattro, so ended up with the S4 cab, which I am more than happy with. In a nutshell, you will get more MPG and torque from the diesel, but quieter, smoother ride in the petrol, when it comes to cabs.

I've got a 2.0T now, had a 3.2 before, and the 2.0T with a remap is better than the 3.2. Its very quick, very punchy, better MPG. It is a bit noisy compared to the 3.2.

It depends if you want to pull up at the diesel pump or petrol pump. For me, it always has to be the petrol side.

just my opinion

the diesel will win out every time
better running costs, holds its value much better, you can remap easily for more torque, diesels pull very hard low down, but run out at about 4500 rpm, but i drove the two also and found the diesel much better, pretty much half the running costs when you count everything in - insurance, tax, fuel

I'd go for the 2.0T petrol - with the roof down on a cab, you'll hear that diesel engine

I find the 2.0T pretty economical & get around 35-40mpg for the most part.

Some great points on which one to go for - Petrol or Deisel but to be quite honest I am still undecided! I guess it comes down to which vehicle is in better condition in the end because both have their pro’s and con’s.

The Audi A4’s I am looking at are as follows:

Audi A4 2.0t FSI Sport 2006 - 40,000 mileage
Audi A4 2.0 TDi 140 Cabriolet - 2008 50,000 mileage

Both seem ok on initial inspection but I am certainly no expert and have never owned an Audi before.

I had the AA do a vehicle inspection test on the 2006 Audi A4 2.0T FSI Sport Multitronic on Friday and I actually received the report today. It seems although the car is in good condition there were a few essential repairs that he said need looking at before I should consider buying.

Basically, he came back and told me that there were:

external oil leaks (upper engine)
engine underside leakage
fluid/oil leaks around the gearbox

but because the AA guy did not have the proper equipment eg, ramps, his view was obscured when he tried to look for the leaks in the engine. He has suggested it needs to be looked at properly by a specialist/garage who have the necessary ramps and equipment.
I then called the dealer and to be fair to him he has been very good and attentive. He took it straight over to someone he knows to have it looked at it to try and find the source of the leaks. There was also an airbag warning light on which he said he will also sort before I buy..

So I guess the question I want to put to you guys if I may, is, should I walk away now because this could lead to major problems and has anyone experienced similar issues with their 2.0T engines (seen a few topics on the airbag light) but more importantly on the source of the oil leaks is what I need to know?

What I don't want is to buy a car that will be temporarily fixed and then something awful happens that is going to cost me a small fortune in the near future (I am not a wealthy individual)

I have been reading as much as possible on this forum and others, about possible engine oil leaks and I know this could be coming from all sorts of places but it has got me thinking… audi a4 2.0T burning oil - Topix

If the people in the forum on the link above are to be believed then all 2.0T Audi A4's are bad news and I am not talking about the older models 07-10. I mean do you guys have similar issues with changing your oil as often as these people report and are engine oil leaks common??

I know I maybe worrying about nothing but 450 posts from people complaining about Audi A4 2.0T engines burning oil is quite a few people and do you guys know if there maybe something in it or have experiences of such and such...?
