Strange red pull cord ???

Hi all, i went to change my brake light bulb today and noticed a strange red pull cord type thing ??? what is this as i cant figure it out and its driving me mad ???

Depends on side, could be fuel flap?????

that was my thoughts as it leads in that direction but obviously with it being red its asking to be pulled so i did and nothing happened :-(

I noticed this when installing my sub and amp, it is incase something fails electrically but i cant remember what? it might of been fuel cap??

It's the emergency release for the fuel flap, in case the central locking fails.

Don't people read their owner's manual any more?!

lol what would the Internet be for if we all read our manuals?

And yes as said, it's the emergency release for the fuel cap. Not had to use it on our A4 but had to discover it's use on our A2 when the release button failed!
