I just bought a new steering wheel off ebay. Part number 8P0 124A

The ad said it would fit A3 and A4. I removed my old steering wheel (multi function) and fittted the new one but when it came to fitting the airbag into the new wheel it was too big. The airbag won't push into position.

I thought these would just be a straight replacement.

Has anyone come across this before or is it just me!?

I love the look of the new wheel but doubt very much I'll be able to afford a new airbag too.

The A3 wheels from around 2007 onwards will not fit the B7 as they have a shallow airbag slot. You will need to get a wheel beginning with 8E0, 8P0 (before 2007), or 8K0 (from the current B8).

You'll probably find the one you pulled off begins with 8P0 but don't let that confuse you.

Oh balls!

So unless I can get the shallow airbag then the wheel I've got is useless to me?

In short, yep. Even if you got an airbag I'm not sure it has the same connections (I wouldn't try it).

Sell the wheel and get the right one i.e. stay clear of ones for the A3.

Back on the bay it goes then!

Shame cos it looked great when it was on.
