Hi all, I am picking up the new car today, no regarding the cam belt, the dealer tells me the last owner had it changed last year but he has no reciept or proof! I would have thought the seller would keep that bill. Anyway, first question, is there anyway to tell if it had been changed and secondly, do they fail??? I really can't afford that bill just in case, not right now anyway. The car has done 50k and is '06.

Thanks.

Phil

They do fail, mine went a couple of weeks back, sold the car to cut my losses as its a huge bill to repair.

I believe there is no way to tell.

Worth getting done just in case.

Alternatively ask if the dealer can give you a free warranty covering the cambelt for the time it should last. Or find out who the previous keeper is and ask them where they got it done and ask the garage for their records.

If there is no way to prove that its been done or they will not offer warranty , i would ask the dealer to do it at a reduced cost/good will/deal maker , not worth the risk for a few hundreded pounds vs a new new engine IMO.
