when I open the drivers door there is a strange whirring noise,fuel pump maybe?

no basic model hasnt got computer,cruise etc just got aircon and leccy front windows bog standard.

Yep, opening the door primes the fuel pump to make starting easier

This is correct. Most Audi VWs do this. Most people just dont notice it. One of those noises, once you hear it you will always hear it. Like an annoying rattle is your car, you hear it but no one else does. lol
